A Bremen man is dead and an investigation is underway with the help of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation following a shooting on Wednesday afternoon, according to a release from the Haralson County Sheriff’s Office this afternoon.

Deputies were called out on Wednesday, August 20 just after 4:30 p.m. to a residence on Old Ridgeway Road after a call came into 911 about the shooting.

Officials found a male shot in the head during the incident, and though first responders on scene tried to provide life-saving care and he was transported to the hospital, Jason Richard Rakestraw died from his injuries.

The 41-year-old male from Bremen was taken to the GBI Crime Lab for further autopsy.

The GBI were called out to assist in the investigation still underway, and though the gunshot wound is expected to be the cause of death no results from the autopsy were yet available.

“The loss of a family member is always difficult, and I offer my condolences,” states Sheriff Stacy Williams. “This was a complicated crime scene, and we do not have the answers yet. I appreciate the hours that our team has put into this case already, and I appreciate the GBI for coming out to assist us in this case. Our goal, as in every case, is to find the truth. We will release more information when we are able to do so. Please join me in praying for this family.”

Per the release, no further information was being released at this time.

No arrests were reported from the incident as this time.

Check back for additional details as they become available.
