HCSO: Woman with truancy warrant tries to speed away, claims seizure when finally stopped

A woman who was driving down the road was spotted by a Haralson County Sheriff’s Office deputy tried to get away and got up to 90 mph before stopping in a Dollar General parking lot, then tried to fake a seizure to get out of trouble based on reports provided to Haralson Today.

Cpl. Jon Henderson spotted Kristi Lavonne James Wood, 30, of a Tallapoosa address, driving on Thursday afternoon on Felton-Rockmart Road with a drive-out tag on her Nissan Sentra, but it had no registration numbers.

Henderson attempted to stop Wood, but she hit the gas pedal and attempted to flee, at one point hitting speeds up to 90 and also throwing a cup out of the window.

When she finally stopped at the Dollar General at Hwy. 27, she was boxed in by Henderson so she couldn’t escape in her vehicle any further.

She then claimed she was having a seizure when Henderson finally got to the car, “acting nervous and anxious” and when she got out of the car noted that she had a warrant for truancy. An ambulance was called to check her out, but she refused any treatment and was taken into custody.

Wood faces the warrant for truancy, along with new charges for the driving infractions that included driving while license suspended, tag requirement and a windshield violation.

She was later released on Thursday on a $2,382 bond.
