No deputies were injured with the Haralson County Sheriff’s Office early this morning after a high-speed chase coming from Alabama ended with a crash and an exchange of gunfire with the suspect, according to a release on social media from the Haralson County Sheriff’s Office.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed the officer-involved shooting took place, one of three across the state overnight. No information was immediately available about the suspect, but the HCSO confirmed they were transported for medical treatment.

Per the release from the HCSO, a high-speed pursuit that began in the area around Birmingham, Alabama made its way into Georgia on Interstate 20 East heading toward Atlanta. The suspect made it two miles into Haralson County when it spun out.

Once stopped the suspect began to shoot at law enforcement, who fired back.

The incident shut down I-20, which as of this posting remained closed to traffic near the state line in the eastbound lanes only.

Check back for additional details as they become available from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, who has taken over the case.
