The Haralson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed today that a Polk County teen working with a tree service company died in an unfortunate accident on Wednesday in Tallapoosa.
The release confirmed that Hunter Brock Barrett, 16, died of injuries sustained when a tree twisted and fell on him while being removed from a property on Salem Church Road in Tallapoosa.
Per the release, Barrett’s father who was cutting on the tree did not realize his son had left the work vehicle he was previously seen in, and found him under the portion of the tree after the accident occurred.
Emergency personnel were called out to help and attempt to revive Barrett just after 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, but those attempts were unsuccessful.
Investigators and the Haralson County Coroner’s Office were called to the scene to look into the matter further, but determined the incident was an accident.
“This was just a horrible, tragic accident,” Sheriff Stacy Williams said in the release. “These kinds of accidents are hard to deal with when an adult is involved, it is so much worse when it is a child. I would like to thank every agency that was involved yesterday. Please join us in praying for his family during this difficult time.”
Barrett and his family live in Polk County in Felton. He was a student within the Polk School District.
Smith and Miller Funeral Home are in charge of the arrangements and a full obituary is available here.
