Ronald Greg Taylor, 79, passed away peacefully at home on May 6, 2025.
Ronnie was born on December 8, 1945, in Fruithurst, Alabama, to Thomas and Frances Taylor.
At the age of 20, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served bravely in the Vietnam War. He rose to the rank of Lance Corporal before being wounded in combat—a head injury that he miraculously survived. For his bravery, he was awarded the Purple Heart.
After his military service, Ronnie returned home and devoted himself to building a life rooted in hard work and family. He owned and operated several successful businesses over the years, including Summerville Service Station, Taylor Saw & Mower, and Bremen Marine. While he was proud of these accomplishments, nothing meant more to him than his 59-year marriage to the love of his life, Dondra Williams Taylor.
Ronnie loved being on the water—whether deep-sea fishing, freshwater fishing, or just relaxing on a boat or beach. He was a man of deep faith and spent many years teaching Sunday school, sharing his thoughtful and wise understanding of Scripture. His greatest joys came from time spent with his family: his daughter, granddaughter, great-grandson, and extended family. He also had a well-known love of good food.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Frances Taylor, and his sister, Carolyn Payton.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Dondra Taylor; his daughter, Dawn Hughes, and son-in-law, Sean Hughes; his granddaughter, Zion Robinson; great-grandson Brooks Pardue; his siblings, Randy Taylor, Teresa Stephenson, Sandra Pike; his sister-in-law, Debra White; as well as Reagan Calvert, Kalli Preston, and Josie Preston.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 8, 2025 between 1 & 3 pm. Funeral services will follow at 3 pm from the Chapel of Hightower Funeral Home with Pastor David Finley officiating.
Ronnie will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
