The Haralson County Courthouse saw more than 800 voters stop by to cast their ballot in Buchanan on Tuesday, and another 75 absentee ballots were officially received out of more than 450 issued out to the community.
The official figure for the first day of early voting was 814 who made it out to cast their ballot in the Presidential race for 2024 between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.
Many of the races are already decided thanks to primaries held in late spring and early summer runoffs, but at least one other contested race is on the ballot districtwide. Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene faces a challenge from Polk County Gen. Shawn Harris (retired) for the 14th District seat.
The first day of early voting across the state brought a record turnout, as more than 300,000 cast a ballot in the 2024 General Election on Tuesday. That doubled the record set in 2020 for the first day of Early Voting.
Polls opened again this morning at 8:30 a.m. at the Courthouse and remain open through the rest of the afternoon until 5 p.m. Early voting continues through the rest of the week during the 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. schedule, including the first of two Saturday votes on Oct. 19 open at the Haralson County Courthouse from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Early voting will remain on the same schedule from Oct. 21 through Oct. 26 (the second Saturday early voting day) and will conclude on the final week on Friday, Nov. 1 before the Nov. 5 Election Day.
Additionally, a drop box for absentee ballots is also available at the courthouse for those who are voting by mail but don’t wish to wait for the post office to make a delivery.
Request an absentee ballot by October 25, but it has to be returned before polls close on Election Day at 7 p.m. to the Board of Elections to be counted.
All 12 of Haralson County’s precincts will be opening on Tuesday, November 5 for the 2024 General Election.
