VOTE 2024: Trump takes Haralson County, local races decided

If Haralson County voters have anything to say about it, Donald Trump will once again sit behind the Resolute Desk in the White House for a new four years in office.

He and running mate Senator JD Vance of Ohio won by a wide margin in Haralson County in the 2024 election, taking a 14,228 to 2,057 victory locally in the Presidential race over Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota.

Some 16,405 voter participated – 74% of the 22,117 registered voters reported by the state – in this year’s election, a good majority of those collected during the three weeks of early voting that concluded last Friday.

In other races on the ballot that were contested, a new Congressman is likely to win out tonight to represent Haralson County.

The U.S. House District 3 seat was open, and thus far Republican Brian Jack looks to take the seat over Democrat Maura Keller. Jack took a 14,116 to 1,942 victory in Haralson County in an 87.91 to 12.09% split in the race.

Jack held a districtwide lead of 66.14% to 33.86% in a district stretching from Haralson in the north to Muscogee County in the south, and from the Alabama state line to Henry and Lamar Counties to the east.

Henry County was the only area where Keller was in the lead. Jack has a more than 100,000 vote margin over Keller in the race.

Timothy Bearden will retain the District 30 State Senate seat for the GOP over Democrat Wanda Cooper. He won Haralson with a 88.37 to 11.63% split in the vote, or 14,134 to 1,861 ballots in the race.

Several uncontested races were on the ballot as well. Jaeson Smith was already going to be the new District Attorney after he faced no challengers in qualify. He’ll take over for Jack Browning at the beginning of 2025.

Probate Judge J. Edward Hulsey will remain on the bench after running unopposed, alongside Haralson County Clerk of Superior Court Amy Richie Muse.

Sheriff Stacy Williams will begin a new term in office as well after being unopposed on the ballot.

Tax Commissioner Natasha Pope, Suveyor Gregory Dewberry, Coroner Patty Hutcheson, Magistrate Judge Jason Blackmon and all of the County Commission and School Board seats are being represented by incumbents or were otherwise unchallenged in following qualifying or the primaries.

The only other new member joining a board via this year’s ballot was Eddie Ivey, taking over the County Commission District 3 seat as a GOP candidate without opposition.
