A former Haralson County Sheriff’s Office deputy working in the detention division is now in custody in Polk County and will likely remain based on the charges put forth by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Thomas Jay Roberts, 30, of a Polk address, was arrested today on warrants from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation including aggravated sodomy, incest and child molestation.

Per a press release from the HCSO, he was working as a detention deputy and terminated from his employment immediately after the Sheriff’s Office learned of the charges.

“I have stood for transparency from the day I took office. I know that the GBI has conducted a careful investigation into this case,” states Sheriff Stacy Williams. “Once we knew the results of the
investigation and the atrociousness of the charges, we promptly made the decision to dismiss the former deputy as well as make sure we were transparent to the citizens of Haralson County about this investigation and arrest.”

He had been employed with the agency for over a year. He had also previously worked for the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been sought for additional information, but have yet to put out a follow-up release.

Bond had not yet been set for the trio of charges.
