J. L. Gober, age 89 of Centre, Alabama, formerly of Haralson County, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 18, 2025.

Born in Haralson County, he was the son of the late Melvin Grady Gober and the late Jewell Hollis Gober.  In addition to his parents, J. L. was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Sisk, and his brother, Melvin Gober.

J. L. spent over 30 years driving the country for Kraft foods and winning many safety awards along the way.  After retirement, he continued working as a truck driver for North Georgia Turf.  Traveling was in his blood, and he enjoyed traveling the country and cruising the seas.

As a young country gentleman, he spent many hours deer and rabbit hunting.  In his later years, he enjoyed being on the water boating and fishing. J.L was known for his famous fish fries when he cooked the fish he caught at Lake Weiss.  When not outdoors, he was watching NASCAR, his favorite team, the Georgia Bulldogs, or surfing on the internet.

He kept up with local news, national news, and all his friends.  An avid country music fan, he had weekly seats at the Grand Ole Opry for many years. He not only loved listening to the music, but he also knew about each musician’s background and families.

As a devoted family man, J. L. enjoyed spending time with his grands and great-grands, and his great great-grandchildren.  He was so proud to be the patriarch of 5 generations of Gobers.

His survivors include his wife and partner, Judy Bell of Centre; his daughter, Melanie Carter of Middleburg, Florida; his sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie & Deb Gober of Cartersville, and Brian & Emily Bell of McDavid, Florida; and his precious grandchildren: Jay & Amanda Gober, Amanda & Jeffrey Reeves, Kanina & Zach Crosen, Breane Gober, Tiffanie Johnson, Korben Bell, Jace Bell, and Bryce Bell.  Also surviving are his great-grandchildren: Crysta, Kaitlyn, Delia, Mackenie, Sara Rose, Eli and Mason; his sweet great great-grandchildren: Charlotte, Vincent, and Greyson; several nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Funeral services for J. L. Gober will be conducted at 4:00 PM on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Hutcheson’s Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow in the Fellowship Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Buchanan.

The family will receive friends on Thursday afternoon from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at the funeral home.
